Likely offspring of the same pair, that was also present in the park. See 5077. If they are siblings, its surprising to see how different they look. The call is from Bird 3 (also: jogger, Eurasian Blue Tit, Hooded Crow). Compared to 5077 it has a more Graylag shrilling quality to it. Bird 1: photo 1-3 Bird 2: photo 4-7 Bird 3: photo 8-9 |

Marsh Tit (Poecile palustris ) Sumpmejse ~ Carbonero Palustre ~ Entita 2023-02-28 Kongelunden, Denmark KLNV. A nice find (by me). Out of the blue it was there on the feeding net, that some unknown person put up. Interesting to find the species inside the forest, though attracted by food. More birds are seen in these years, and it can only be a question of time before we have the first breeding pair on the island. |

Hume's Warbler (Phylloscopus humei ) Himalayasanger ~ Bergtajgasångare 2022-11-27 Ishøj Strand, Denmark Discovered yesterday by someone else. Stayed in a mixed Sea Buckthorn shrubbery and in more open long grassed vegetation for a while. Was calling often with the characteristic double note call. Otherwise, it didn't show that well as the photos also indicate, but the overall creamy dusty look seemed apparent from the distance, and the two wing bars and the marked eyebrow narrowing toward the end can be perceived in the photos. Rare |

[SIBERIAN] Afternoon and quiet overcast weather. Compared to the other bird this day, 4203, this one was calling spontaneously, and gave very good looks. It's probably a coincidence but I've never seen a normal Chiffchaff behave with such confidence. It foraged down to 1 meter from me and perched several times in the open, constantly giving its characteristic 'chicken-call'...Winnner Winner Chicken Dinner..! 5 minutes later it continued through the vegetation. Also seen by Knud Boysen. |

Red-breasted Flycatcher (Ficedula parva ) Lille Fluesnapper ~ Papamoscas Papirrojo ~ Mindre Flugsnappare 2022-05-16 Kongelunden, Denmark Second calendar year. Male. Assuming that eagerly singing migrant birds still follow the traditional belief that such an individual is a male, I conclude the sex as so with this bird. Beside the song, the pale lower mandible assures that this bird is not a Taiga Flycatcher! Found in the SE department by RT. Easier to see, than the bird I found last year, and singing more actively. Also: Common Chaffinch, Eurasian Blackbird, Eurasian Blackcap, Eurasian Wren. Rare |

Marsh Warbler/Eurasian Reed Warbler (Acrocephalus palustris/scirpaceus ) 2021-10-07 Kalvebod Fælled, Denmark First calendar year. This type of bird and the two being the most likely and at this time of year and the bird apparently being a young bird, difficult to separate. This bird I talk about in this 5Chickens blog. The call was recorded later, and might not come from this bird, but I think it is, as I mention in the story. |

Marsh Warbler (Acrocephalus palustris ) Kærsanger ~ Carricero Políglota ~ Kärrsångare 2021-06-25 Kalvebod Fælled, Denmark Male. Came across this acrocephalus at 00:30 when doing a larger circuit to find night calling species. With the confirmed and present Blyth's Reed Warbler at Frieslandsvej in mind my first thought, when I heard this one, was that it was indeed another individual. However, despite of the song being slow paced it doesn't include any of the classic dy dy dy notes and also has a faster paced quality to the snarling passages in some occasions favoring Marsh. It's good to have in mind that often some birds subdue their normal expression when singing at this time. Also: Edible Frog. |

Blyth's Reed Warbler (Acrocephalus dumetorum ) Buskrørsanger ~ Carricero de Blyth ~ Busksångare 2021-06-24 Kalvebod Fælled, Denmark Male. A singing bird. Discovered by SKR last Friday, by sound, with doubts about its identity, sitting right in the middle of a Marsh Warbler territory - or several. But confirmed by sound and photos today. These photos are perhaps not conclusive, but still show some of the characters to look for: Long bill, dusky distal lower mandible, apparently short primary projection. Picture 1 though blurred, gives the feeling of a short wing. The eyebrow bright in front of the eye is also a good indication as is the flat forehead and the overall cold colors. The last blurry photo just added to show the long undertail coverts - trait of the Acrocephalus-warblers. The bird didn't sing when I was there, but I recorded the soft tjek call that is characteristic when compareing with the realistic candidates to be found at this site. While I was there it mostly stayed low in a ditch with dense vegetation, but came up a few times sitting on the fence for a few seconds before diving back into hide. Frieslandsvej. Update: Added a long song sequence recorded the following night at 00:50. Compare this song with a Marsh Warbler, 3549, I recorded the same night. Rare |

Little Bittern (Ixobrychus minutus [minutus (Little)]) Dværghejre ~ Avetorillo Común ~ Dvärgrördrom 2020-06-10 Kalvebod Fælled, Denmark Adult male. Hejresøen. Discovered by John Larsen this morning. Rather actively singing when I was there during the afternoon, but not very cooperative visually. Only seen briefly when flying from one spot to another. This song is the typical male song, indicating that it was very keen on finding a mate. Will be interesting to see if it is still there tomorrow after a whole day without a female response. Biggest rarity in my time on Amager, I think, which was also indicated by the large number of birders present during my stay. Excellent experience. Recordings, also: [1:48] Eurasian Blackbird, Common Chiffchaff, Common Cuckoo, Little Grebe, Eurasian Coot, Greater Whitethroat, Eurasian Reed Warbler. [0:29] Bearded Reedling, Eurasian Coot, Eurasian Reed Warbler. [0:51] Eurasian Coot, Eurasian Reed Warbler, Eurasian Moorhen, Red-necked Grebe. Blyth's Reed Warbler (Acrocephalus dumetorum [monotypic]) Buskrørsanger ~ Carricero de Blyth ~ Busksångare 2020-06-07 Kalvebod Fælled, Denmark Along Ellevehøjvej in a stretch with Buckthorn more than willow bushes. Was discovered earlier today where it was more cooperating than when I visited. During 3 hours in the evening the vocalization in this recording was practically all it gave. It's not a very obvious documentation but the slow repeated dy dy dy sequences are typical of the species and would be rare with any of the other acrocephalus warblers. My first on Amager. Also: Eurasian Blackbird, Common Chaffinch, Greater Whitethroat, Tree Pipit, Common Cuckoo, Willow Warbler. Rare |

A large warbler preferring to sit obscured, but luckily came out here for a short while. Found it myself. Greenish Warbler (Phylloscopus trochiloides [viridanus]) Same bird: 112 Lundsanger ~ Mosquitero Verdoso ~ Lundsångare 2020-06-05 Kongelunden, Denmark Typical bird, greenish gray look overall, long broad eyebrow and faint single wing bar. Appearance extremely variable depending on light and angle, as photos show. Singing almost constantly as it is normal for newly arrived warblers. Two song types. The typical thin metallic descending twitter with a single starting note, and an up-and-down sequence resembling Great Tit. Another bird was present today in Pinseskoven, Vestamager. Normal time of year and more or less expected today after rain passed through the Copenhagen area during the night. Sound recordings also: [0:13]: Great Tit, Eurasian Blackbird, Common Chaffinch. Corn Crake (Crex crex) monotypic Engsnarre ~ Guion de Codornices ~ Kornknarr 2020-05-21 Amager Fælled, Denmark Present since yesterday, discovered in the morning. When I arrived some 10 persons were standing in the middle of the field where the bird was supposed to be. I stayed on the path, 50 meters away, confident that the bird would be easy to hear from there as well. And I was rewarded, because shortly after it started to call closer to me than to the others (did they push it too much..?). I approached the sound along the path, and then just waited until it called again, and to my surprise it was much closer now having reached the edge of the path, and just some 5 meters from me. Very loud. I had the recorder running and as you can hear got a very good recording. While standing there I considered if I should try to get my camera in case the bird should decide to show itself. But in the same moment the bird came out and flew along the path away from me and landed some 40 meters away in the shadow of a group of large poplars. My first on Amager, and perhaps even my first seen - ever. Also: Eurasian Blackbird, Eurasian Blackcap. |
