Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) (Mammals) Ræv (dk) Zorro Rojo (es) 2024-08-26 Lergravene (St Magleby), Denmark Adult. Me against the sun it didn't see me while being interested in something in the grass. But without any hunting attempts it slowly moved on and disappeared into the bushes. With an eradication program going on on the island, it is not often you are allowed such a fine encounter. Without stress or fear, and I grate every such moment among my overeager fellow humans who constantly have to act and control everything on their way. |

Acleris notana (Acleris notana) (Butterflies) 2024-11-06 Vinkelhuse (Tårnby), Denmark Imago. A home visitor, but brought in hidden in Curly Kale from the garden. There are several species in this genus that are very similar, and without having asked for id advice, I might leave it as an sp. species, but Kim Vognsen has a very similar looking animal on naturbasen, why I dare my luck. The other most likely candidate is Acleris ferrugana. |

A new species for me, happily welcomed with size and accessibility just as I prefer it. Having given up on butterflies this year, especially the micro moths, I daily ignore many animals that might be of interest, but it's simply taking too much time to get a proper hold on them, when dragonflies are in focus. But this one was unavoidable and strikingly good looking, why I'm happy...repetition. |

Flushed by two guys, just as I was passing them in the other direction looking for a female Sooty Copper [Sort Ildfugl]. So I got this large moth as a new impressive species. I think it is more impressive than rare, but when seeing something big like this (10cm?) you always think it must be something unusual. But they are nocturnal, and there are several others of these sphinx Moths [Aftensværmere] that are equally magnificent. |

A fresh individual and one of the unusual ones without color or pattern on the forewings. You can see a weak shadow of the purple band that usually runs across the wing, but nothing more. Comments on naturbasen.dk indicate that it is a well-known form, brown, but there is only one photo among 300 showing such an animal, and on the German Lepiforum.de a single animal there too. |

Ok, I took similar photos two years ago, but then you know: They are still here. The preferred plant for egg-incision of the Green Hawker (Aeshna viridis) [Grøn Mosaikguldsmed], but you can't just assume that all larger exuvias (the skin left behind by the emerging dragonfly) found on the plant are of the this species since other hawkers use them too, for example Migrant Hawker (Aeshna mixta) [Efterårsmosaikguldsmed] and Blue Hawker (Aeshna cyanea) [Blå Mosaikguldsmed]. The plant seems to be spreading, helped on its way by increasing horticultural activities. There is a pond in the nearby cemetery too where both Water Soldiers and the Green Hawker are present. |

It looks superficially like Water-soldier [Krebseklo] but emerges from the water in a single point and has longer leaves but without the thorny edges - has instead a wrinkled appearance in parts of the leaves. Should be emitting a pleasant fragrance, for which the plant has been used back to the Ancient Egyptians, but I haven't been able to confirm this yet. It probably has to come from the flowers, and since they often stand in water it is difficult to approach close enough. |
