Monotypic: Coastal eastern Mexico (Yucatan Peninsula and adjacent islands) to northern Honduras.
Endemic status Near-endemic to Mexico
Sound Guide Song probably changing, but clear and somewhat sharp tones that apparently are repeated. Also a very dry hoarse call, almost a hiss, matching the size of the bird well.
Comment Somewhat resembling a Melodious Blackbird, but finer and more round, and also more skulking preferring the shade, like thrushes.
