Identification:
In Denmark most similar to Spættet Bredpande (Pyrgus malvae) [Grizzled Skipper ~ Smultronvisslare] but is larger with more diffuse spotting on the hindwing. The pale extra spots near the forewing margin on Spættet Bredpande is one of the best distinction marks on the upperside. Below Oberthúr has a greenish brown base color and the white band centrally on the hindwing is thickest near the front and broken in the middle. This last feature separates it from Soløjebredpande (Pyrgus alveus) [Large Grizzled Skipper ~ Kattunvisslare] which shows the inner edge of the band as a straight line running from the front to the middle.
Life stages:
Distribution:
N Africa, Europe, Turkey, Transcaucasus, NW Asia and S Urals.
Habitat:
Requires warm conditions. Sunny and dry coastal slopes with fields of short-grassed vegetation.
Behavior:
Does not move far from the breeding locality, why it only difficultly expands its range. The males are territorial and aggressive. Likes to sun bath on vegetation close to the ground with spread wings.
Status:
Very localized in Denmark, now only at localities on and near the peninsula of Røsnæs, W Sjælland. But after a period of decline the species now seems to be stable and expanding slightly. Likely because of the warmer summers we have.
Host plants:
In Denmark on
Knoldet Mjødurt (Filipendula vulgaris)[Dropwort ~ Brudbröd]
Bakke-Soløje (Helianthemum nummularium ssp. obscurum) [Common Rock-rose ~ Mirasol ~ Solvända]
rarely on
Krybende Potentil (Potentilla reptans) [Creeping Cinquefoil ~ Cincoenrama ~ Revfingerört]

South of Denmark on several potentilla species.

Comment:
In Denmark probably only present because of conservation efforts using a precise grassing regiment.

On a windy morning the animals stayed on the sheltered side of the hill, but later in the afternoon the sun came out and the wind calmed, and they could be found on the dry slope toward the sea as well.

Second generation.
