Description:
Former defense facility but now a recreational area with a restaurant and a larger playground. The military bunkers are still existing, and visiting is possible on certain days. Most vegetation is cut down, both along the moat and on the fortress ground, making it of little interest for animals needing vegetational shelter.
INTERESTS:
Birds:
In winter time you can find Tufted Ducks [Troldand] and geese (mostly Graylags [Grågæs]) here. Rarely a kingfisher [Isfugl] hangs out here too. At the southeast corner cormorants and herons roost in a waterside tree.
Dragonflies:
elegans, mixta, cancellatum, danae, vulgatum (5)
The short list of species is probably a good indication of the poor quality for dragonflies. The only species likely breeding is elegans, and perhaps cancellatum, the others have been coincidental.
ACCESS (free 24/7?):
On foot. The southern entrance toward Amager Strandvej has steps and a carousel gate making it difficult to enter with a bike(walking), child carrier etc. Use the other entrance then. You can park along Amager Strandvej.
