Cackling Goose (Branta hutchinsii hutchinsii

2025-10-08 Kalvebod Fælled (Tårnby), Denmark

Adult Granatvej. With 500 barnacles.
A rather pale bird that doesn't show any trace of a white necklace, and as it doesn't look very small compared to the barnacles, why I would like to put it in the hutchinsii category. Funny enough we had another bird visiting in 2022 that matched this subspecies as well, but other birds that show up in Denmark seem to be of the smaller minima subspecies, often darker and with clear traces of a white necklace.

The bird wore a metal band above the right foot, but nothing on the left leg. Not sure if that indicates a domestic individual or relates to a N American banding scheme.

Recorded as handheld bino-video 80 meters distance.
