2017-03-02 Malecón de Cancún, Mexico Adult. Tall bill without horizontal grooves indicates this species rather than Groove-billed Ani. Apparently some GbA individuals can show this character as well, but I expect them to be young birds without marked bills. I've never seen a GbA like this, and the general impression of the bill fits a Smooth-billed well. My first! Think I saw two birds, and they were together with a group of Groove-billed. None were vocal. |
