Subspecies: griseoventer (Jalisco)
Age and sex similar. Not sure if presence at this lek, and very actively calling, is an indication of a male. 4 birds present, and not very shy, though one had to get in between the bushed to capture these photos.

Subspecies: griseoventer (Jalisco)
Age and sex are similar. Unmistakable in the region being the only hermit here. A rather irregular species, and is supposed to breed at this time of year. It is still very dry in the area around El Tuito wondering if that has anything to do with this bird showing up now. Likely same bird as 3055.

2019-06-07    Rancho Primavera (El Tuito - jal), Mexico

Subspecies: griseoventer (Jalisco)
Enigmatic species that comes and goes in mysterious ways. Unmistakable in this part of the country. This bird had been coming for some days to the feeder. I spent most of the day waiting for it to come in, which it did perhaps every half hour, and sometimes only for a short glimpse when chased away by a Cinnamon Hummingbird! But a few times during the day it insisted, and stayed long enough to allow me these photos.

In picture 2 with female Broad-Billed Hummingbird, in picture 20 and 21 with Plain-capped Starthroat, in picture 23 with Plain-capped Starthroat and Violet-crowned Hummingbird.

Likely same bird as 3056.
