Identification:
One of the difficult white-chequered skippers. But from a Danish perspective mainly possible to confuse with Oberthür's Grizzled Skipper (Fransk Bredpande), however, that one has diffuse spots on the hindwing, is paler on the underwing, is larger and lacks a row of white spots along the upper forewing margin.

Distribution:
Europe, NW Turkey, Tian Shan, Mongolia, N China and Korea.
Habitat:
Sunny and dry fields with short vegetation. Open land heaths and costal meadows. Also forest clearings.
Behavior:
Small and fast moving near the ground. Often rests on the ground or stones with spread wings.
Status:
Declining in Denmark, but still present in Jylland, Fyn and N and E Sjælland. In Sweden the most common skipper.

We only saw few of the species on this trip, and only in forest habitat, contrary to the dry open land where I have seen it in Denmark.

Not a species I have a lot of experience with, but funny to find it inside a forest rather than in open heath land.
