Imago Granathøj. Normall it is said that the three brown frogs in Denmark are difficult to separate only with macro-looks like here, but then someone added info to naturbasen that the extend and shape of the dark face mask is conclusive, why I call this a temporaria. |

Imago Pinseskoven. A modest sized individual. I'm certainly not an expert on amphibians and this one I'm calling this species, rather than Moor Frog (R. arvalis) [spidssnudet] only because of the broad snout and lacking dark markings on the flank, which are listed as secondary good field marks the two between, on naturbasen.dk. The best field mark is still a special structure (knob) on the inner toe of the hind legs which can only be used when holding the animal in the hand. On temporaria the knob is shorter than the inner phalanges of the inner toe, on arvalis the opposite. |
