Imago I think, two different animals, 1-2, 3-6. The buckeye-complex in Mexico is rather...complex. At first I thought this one, 3-6, was of the newly split Mexican species Pacific Mangrove Buckeye (Junonia pacoma), but reading up on the details, it looks better for a coenia (broad pale forewing band and complete dark ring around the forewing spot on the underside). Also, I'm not sure if pacoma has truly been seen away from the coast, though there are some observations in naturalista.mx. The first two photos might be a different species, looking somewhat darker, but you know: variation, angle etc. |
