Red-breasted Chat (Granatellus venustus venustus (Red-breasted) ) Rødbrystet Skjoldsanger ~ Granatelo Mexicano ~ Vitstrupig Trastkardinal 2019-03-30 Mayto (Cabo Corrientes - jal), Mexico
Male. Habitat study. Always thrilling when the red breast emerges out of the bark gray surroundings... Endemic |

Red-breasted Chat (Granatellus venustus venustus (Red-breasted)) Rødbrystet Skjoldsanger ~ Granatelo Mexicano ~ Vitstrupig Trastkardinal 2019-05-18 Los Veranos (pueblo - jal), Mexico
Adult male. Unmistakable. My first visit to the place, so don't know if the species can been found there regularly, or if it is only present because the breading season is approaching. The bird was singing spontaneously and the female was there too. Endemic |

Red-breasted Chat (Granatellus venustus venustus (Red-breasted)) Rødbrystet Skjoldsanger ~ Granatelo Mexicano ~ Vitstrupig Trastkardinal 2019-06-07 Rancho Primavera (El Tuito - jal), Mexico
Adult male. Unmistakable. Was a gut feeling when I played the sound of this species, and a thrilling sensation when both the male and the female (3059) showed up. It is very likely the first observation on the ranch, but whether it is a regular summer breeder/visitor, or just was there this time because of the unusually dry land everywhere, is a guess only. Would be interesting to go back when the rain starts to see if they stayed to breed... I found them on the ridge behind the main house. The forest up there is practically like a dry thorn forest, their preferred habitat. Endemic |

Female in company with the male in 3060. Notice how buff it is,compared to the illustration in Howell and Webb, where the basic color is almost white. The two of them became my first on the ranch property, and probably the first sighting here. A few years ago I had a male on the ridge at the back end of the ranch, but even though we decided to add it to the list, it was technically outside the property. Endemic |
