One of the earliest, March, sandpipers to pass through Denmark in spring and likewise returning early, July.
Often first heard when flying over or flushed. The black and white appearance is characteristic (especially the black underwing) as is the somewhat erratic flight. Not possible to visually distinguish from Solitary Sandpiper in flight, unless the upper tail is seen well, but perhaps by sound where SOSA has a double call with shorter and sharper notes than GRSA. |
