Subspecies: ??? Eastern group. Adult male. The warm orange color separates this group from the western where the males are more yellowish. Females in general are more alike. Apparently birds from the eastern group should be rare here in Colima, but it is the form that I see most often... |

Subspecies: ? Female. Uniform golden from the head, via breast and belly to under tail, long narrow down-curved bill, and long tail, separate the Hooded female from all the other female orioles. For some reason I rarely see females of this species in Mexico. |

Subspecies: ? Female type. I'm getting gray hair over this one, more. Head, bill and general colors say it is a Hooded, but the short tail does not. However, choose to believe that the tail is growing, though I'm open to any idea mentioning a Bullocks or perhaps even an Orchard....ahh, well probably not...!? Coto La Condesa |

Subspecies: ? Young male with dark throat. Other than 2814, but same place and time. Admitting that it is a judgment call, and that it took a while before I agreed with myself that it has to this species. I'm talking about the upper bird, and the one flying away I think is a young Bullocks with the pale gray part on the belly. That the other bird is a Hooded I say mainly because of the uniformly colored underside, the long tail and the fact that, though it seems to have a fine dark line behind the eye, it doesn't provoke the perception of a brighter eyebrow above it, which would normally be the effect had it been a Bullocks. The head reminds a lot of the adult Streak-backed Oriole, but longish looking shape of the bird plus the pale tail excludes this option. Coto La Condesa |

Subspecies: ? Young male with the black throat. Normally a rather uniformly colored species golden-orange from top to the bottom, and without the dark line behind the eye as Bullocks has it. It also has a long narrow bill, but this can be difficult to judge correctly from photos. The species also has a long tail, which is can be perceived in these photos. Female colored orioles are notoriously difficult to identified, and especially if more species are present at once, as was the case this day, with both Orchards and Bullocks present too. Size and proportions are often more important to focus on than plumage details. Coto La Condesa |
