2011-12-16 Parque La Campana (Colima), Mexico
Subspecies: pallidior Female type. Here in Mexico it could be confused with Orange-breasted Bunting. But this one has a deeper yellowish color in front and a yellow lore as well. Also seems more compact. |

2018-10-23 La Condesa (mi casa en Cd Guzmán), Mexico
Subspecies: ? 2cy male. Only the head and the back seem to be fully adult, and the bright eye-ring also indicate a young bird. In a full adult it would be dark red. Hopeless photos taken from a distance and through a dirty window. Notice the red throat which is characteristic if you happen to see the birding flying overhead which happens sometimes. A female was present too this day, but apparently they've disappeared again afterward, even though the field looks very good for these seed eaters. Coto La Condesa |

2019-03-29 Rancho Primavera (El Tuito - jal), Mexico
Subspecies: ? Female. I'm calling it of this species because the plumage doesn't seem to fit other birds. But the behavior with flying at tree level and land on a branch like this is not how I normally see a Painted Bunting... |
