Subspecies: ??? Subspecies probably simulans. Seen scarcely throughout the state on dry rocky slopes with little vegetation, bushes and trees. Reminds a lot of Rusty Sparrow (Aimophila rufescens) but this is bigger and more edgy reminding more of a Towhee when first seen. |

Subspecies: fusca Juvenile bird. Strongly streaked on breast and flanks and not yet any rufous crown, are characters different from the adult birds. Also yellow gape. The strongly streaked chest almost gives associations to a House Finch. Only slight indication of rufous crown. |
