Subadult, almost adult plumage. Still dusky tint to the tip of the tail and a strange black patch at the base of the tail, which might have to do with the bird being banded as well. Apparently a pair is present at the lake, but breeding has not been confirmed. |

Adult. Calling it an adult because of the all yellow bill and the all white tail. But to my best judgment this is not one of the two birds breeding this year. The head and neck feathering is too dark compared to the other birds. See 3543. However, it was sitting in the patio-tree that the breeding pair often favors, close to the nest, making me wonder if this one has acted as an intruder with selfish intentions. There are quite a few eagles in the larger area, several birds on Saltholm, the nearby island in Øresund, and this spring four birds have been seen at the same time on Aflandshage at the southern point of Amager. But whatever it was doing there, it apparently was a one time event because I've only seen it this once. |

Adult. At last I managed to see a bird in the nest, which was a big step forward from speculating whether it was active or used at all this year. Of course, having seen the pair in the area on several occasions during the spring, this was a good indication that they were doing more that just hanging around. |

Juvenile. Welcome to the world! The big surprise this year! Almost everybody had reached the conclusion that this year would produce no offspring in KL. This, because of the way the adults have behaved, apparently being away from the nest in longer time, and both at the same time. I saw this once, in bad weather, and reached my own similar conclusion based on that. |

Juvenile. Since my last observation of the bird, on 2021-06-08, I had been contacted by DOF to confirm that a juvenile was actually present in Kongelunden this year. Nice as I am, I sent a photo and confirmed where the nest was. When seeing the bird today, with that lump on the back, my instant thought was, that over-eagerly researchers had attacked the nest to put a transmitter on the bird: In the Questionable Name of Science. It looked strange, though, I admit. No squarish edges and no antenna sticking out, but could disorganized feathers really look like this? I hoped so but thought not. Complaining in advance the rest of the day, I decided to revisit the nest, hoping the bird would show itself again, which certainly had not been the case everyday until now. |

Juvenile. Wing coverts not fully developed but still eager to find out more about flying. As mentioned yesterday, 3546, I was on a mission to find out if the bird had really been wired up or not. And as you can see, it was not. Thankfully. Therefore concluding that young eagle feathers can look really messy! UPDATE 2021-07-28: Spoke to Thomas Hellesen today and to my sad surprise he told me that DOF indeed had sent a man up in the nest to band the bird and to put on a gps-transmitter, to what I can only disapprove and say that you can be sure that I from now on will keep my mouth shut and lie if necessary if I'm asked anything that smells like Scientific Ego is being nurtured rather than the well-being of our fellow beings. |

Adult. Byskoven. Two birds. The local pair. First one bird came by, photo 1, then the other. Right above the head, but instinctively? it chose to change the course slightly to put itself between me and the sun. But compared to how I normally see the birds on Amager, it was a great experience to have it this close. They both headed toward Avedøre Holme. |

Adult. ♂ and ♀. New nest in use. Much more exposed than the one in Kongelunden, so will be interesting to see how it goes. They put it rather close to one of the most used roads out there... Some people are talking about two pairs now on Amager; that this pair should be another one than the birds from Kongelunden. But I don't think so. There haven't been much activity down there, and I would have expected us to see more conflicts, air strikes, if a new pair entered the scene. And I would expect the area to be too small for two pairs, but I'm not sure. Will be interesting to follow this year. |

Adult. Near the nest. It's my impression that the birds are being harassed rather often when near the nest - wonder if they keep tolerate it. Here you see gulls but there were many corvids as well. I think they are the worst. Always making trouble for others... |

Third calendar year. Pinseskoven. I think 3cy, with a neat trailing edge but three feather in the outer arm look different as if they have been molted. I probably saw it the other day too, why it might be a new visitor with intentions to stay. |

Adult. Hejresøen. Good News! Came from the east with a garfish [hornfisk] in the talons. It headed directly to the nest, why they must have a live young to rear, despite my negative predictions. So perhaps the chick (s?) hatched a good week ago, and both adults are feeding it, since I haven't been able to see any on the nest for a while. But with the growing foliage, of course I can't exclude that one of the adults are sitting close by all the time watching. With crows, ravens, gulls and herons around in multitudes, that's what I would do! As can be seen in photo 2, the bird is solidly banded. And what the open bill is for, I'm not sure. It wasn't calling, so perhaps the relatively warm weather that we suddenly experienced today was causing it to heat up. Less likely is it that it is gasping for air burdened by the weight of the fish, since it easily took height to reach the correct landing approach to the nest. Banded |
