Subspecies: ruficollis
Probably adult bird in basic plumage. However I wonder why the bird, this late in the year, has still not acquired breeding plumage (compare with 1613). But it could be caused by large variation in the date of breeding, or it could be because it is actually a 2cy bird that will not start breeding this year?
Subspecies: ruficollis
Probably 2cy bird still with a lot of brownish juvenile feathers on the neck. But am not sure if it possible to rule out a bird from a very early brood this same year?
Subspecies: ruficollis
Adult bird in winter plumage. The uniform looking plumage with no signs of the reddish neck-colors of the young bird excludes a 2cy bird. The species has grayish bill with yellow at base outside the breeding season. While breeding the bill and cere turn bluish. Male and female are mostly alike. Regular but not numerous along the coast.
