Different birds in this set. 1-4 is a male. Apparently rather brownish back and head, like a female, but the black tail with a broad white terminal band is diagnostic. 5-6 a group with four birds, apparently both males and females. The males having a blackish basic color. 7-9 a male. 10 what looks like an adult male to the left and a young female with brownish colors and bright head to the right. 11 with the mottled pattern it can be difficult to spot from a distance if it doesn't move. Discovered the birds by chance when I decided to stop and look down the slope at this spot. They moved in and out of the clearing, and am estimating about 10 birds in all. With this observation I can now declare myself a real Mexican birder! |

Female. Likely a ung bird because of the mottled belly. Was calling heavily while we were there, as if it was protecting a nest site. Nick saw a male briefly close to this spot, but those were the only observations we made of the species. |

Juvenile. Unmistakable species and age. Latter because of the golden spots on the back and the scaly breast. Saw two young birds together, and heard another bird lower down. These two were together with other species around a fruiting tree, close to km 14. All photos of the same bird. |
