Subspecies: ??? Subspecies probably pinicolus. Not sure if the yellowish wash at the back flank is real and thus indicating a 1cy bird. Otherwise this gray and white Vireo is unmistakable in the area. |

Subspecies: ? A rather pale bird, but perhaps due to the bright background. Don't see any greenish colors which could indicate Cassin's Vireo. |

Subspecies: ? Adult. Probably a local bird of the subspecies repetens. This mostly based on the time of year, since most migrants have left. Also the very similar Cassin's Vireo, which can be excluded here because of the very strong contrast between the white throat and the gray head, and the lack of any greenish-olive tones on the back. Notice, however, how dusky greenish the bird looks on the side which could lead to the assumption of the bird being a Cassin's if seen badly. This bird was the first one today to respond to my new test using a scolding vireo call to provoke the birds to come out. The used call was indeed that of an Plumbeous. Appropriate, though absolutely incidental. Any insisting scolding would very likely have worked. |
