2012-12-15 Cerro Guzmán (jal), Mexico
Subspecies: gnoma (Mountain) This bird was for many years listed as a Colima Pygmy-Owl, but lately my friend Eduardo Ruvalcaba pointed me to the fact that the bird is more likely a Northern due to the fine dark breast streaking. For a while I was still wondering if not the very plain looking back and the spots on the head would overrule the importance of the breast pattern, but have to accept that this is probably not the case, therefore hereby changed. Also never saw the tail nor heard the bird. |

Subspecies: gnoma Surprised to hear this species away from the volcanoes, but habitat and altitude is perfectly fine for the species, so good it's here as well! |

Subspecies: gnoma (Mountain) Probably adult. Calling in response to unintentional playback. Fine breast streaks and the long tail with white bands separates if from the other two pygmy-owls in the area, Ferruginous and Colima. |
