Unique in area, but Yellow-eyed Junco, which is very similar (and used to be conspecific) normally shows a grayer flank and probably more black in the lore area. Dark-eyed Junco never has the yellow eye.

Two birds. One with dark orange eye, 8. Perhaps a pair. Only saw these two birds, and unfortunately I discovered them late, why I had to return right after, thus, didn't have time to try to get better photos. Downhill, walking the many kilometers back to the car. The hard rocky surface was really cruel to my knees - the worst hike I have experienced in Mexico. The clever ones will camp up there. Endemic |
