Subspecies: californicus 1 cycle birds. All are different birds, but rather alike: Brownish general impression, slender two-colored bill. The whitish forehead apparently is a trait of many birds at this time of year. Very common in the area. |

Subspecies: californicus 1 cycle bird. General brownish colors, thin bill with distinct black tip and outer greater coverts uniformly brownish. The photo angle makes the bird look more compact, a la Western Gull, than it really is. |

Subspecies: californicus Second calendar year. 1 cycle birds. Here the brownish impression and slender proportions are obvious. Also the classic bill coloration. Without being common in Colima, the commonest of the large northern gulls. This day three juveniles were present in the harbor. With Laughing Gulls. My first in Colima. |

Subspecies: californicus 1 cycle bird. More advanced than the bird of two days before. Very worn plumage. Classic slender expression. Thin bill with angled black tip. Long wings. On pic 7 the bird almost appears like a young Ring-billed Gull, amplified by the very bright/worn wing coverts. |

Subspecies: likely californicus 1 cycle, 2cy. The long slender bill and overall pale appearance fit California better than Herring. And I think the bulkiness of the bird is an optical effect rather than a true expression of size and shape. |

Subspecies: likely californicus 1 cycle (2cy). Individual with quite a lot of white on the outer rectrice but otherwise a commonly looking worn bird. The secondaries that look missing on left wing are actually broken, it seems when zooming in. Juvenile remiges are normally not replaced until 2. cycle. |

Subspecies: [likely californicus] 1. cycle, 2cy. An unusual individual with a very pale brown iris and more dark on the bill than you normally see it in the species. The rest of the bird looks normal. |
