2cy bird. The unorganized streaks on the breast and the dark chin stripe are typical for this species. The tail pattern separates it from the Accipiter Hawks. |

Adul with the gray body and black and white tail. Resident and the most common Buteo in Colima. Rather small and in flight it reminds more of one of the small forest raptors. |

2cy bird. Mostly a reference photo. Drawings from behind resembles mostly a Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis). The dark eye stripe and mustache are diagnostic. |

2cy bird. Less marked individual than almost similar aged 1110. The long tail projection it shared basically only with the Accipiter Hawks. Notice how different the profile is between the two photos. |

Adult. Unmistakable with the uniform gray underside. Adult Broad-winged Hawk is either showing brownish contras on body or in dark phase. Notice the tail pattern with diffuse markings toward the base. This is not shown in neither Howell nor Sibley. Perhaps an indication of a younger adult? |

2cy bird. Only saw this bird from below as shown in the photos. First impression was of a Gray Hawk indeed, but while seeing mainly the dark face in the photos, I got a feeling that it could have been a Broad-winged. However, an external personal comment also inclined toward Gray, plus the fact that Broad-winged never or rarely shows well-marked barring all the way to the outer remiges (Clark and Schmitt), which is very pronounced on this bird, make me decide to call it a Gray. To judge the proportions of the bird as a mean of identification from photos is always often very risky, why the sensation of a slimmer winged bird than what a Broad-winged would have shown should not be weighed to high, in my opinion. |

Juvenile or 2cy bird. Typical bird with the overall brownish plumage and whitish eyebrow and cheek. Also the primary projection and primary length compared to tail plus the banding on the tail and the secondaries support the identification. Very common along the power lines these days. |
