Adult type. Juvenile has paler but rather similar plumage. Notice proportions and pointed bill for separation from Giant Cowbird which can be seen in the area as well. It has a longer neck profile and tail. Rather common in the open area around the hotels. |

My first impression of this bird was that it was Giant Cowbird, based on the elongated profile with a powerful bill. But afterward I've decided that it must be a Melodious Blackbird where the photo misleads. This I say mostly because of the short primary projection - the cowbird has a long projection. Even if the angle is difficult it is possible to appreciate that the projection on this bird is rather short, and it fits the blackbird perfectly. Never saw the bird fly or anything else since I didn't give it much attention when I saw it. |

One of the species which, though rather approachable, didn't really allow for good photos. Or perhaps the explanation is that it is one of the species you don't give enough attention while being in a pristine tropical forest with much else to enjoy and look for. |
