Subspecies: garrulus Freezing cold for the second consecutive year, but as long as there is food available, the waxwing can take it. |

Subspecies: garrulus Adult. Adult. Not sure it is the same as 1732. But here it is easy to appreciate the broad yellow tail band, the whitish borders to the inner webs of the primaries and the red wax feathers. |

Subspecies: garrulus Likely adult male. Adult because of broad yellow tail band, whitish inner edges to primaries and big and many red wax feathers. Male because of the well-marked black chin. |

Subspecies: garrulus Probably a young bird foraging on Dog-Rose (Rosa canina). Young bird because of narrow yellow tail band and lack of whitish borders to inner webs of primaries. |

Subspecies: garrulus Probably young bird. Yellow tail band looks narrow. Age easiest to tell from the upper side. Very few birds seen this winter, but several during these days. Probably birds returning north. |

Subspecies: garrulus A flock of around 80 birds at the gate to Finderupvej. A good year for the species in Copenhagen this winter. Males with the broad yellow tail band and red wax drops on the wing with yellow edges. Young birds and females show narrow tail band and are without the red droplets and yellow on the wing. The winter birds are strictly nomadic, moving on as soon as all available food, berries, has been consumed. Photo 11 and 12 show a banded bird. Request for info sent to the Danish ringing central. |

North entrance on Artillerivej. Good season for the species. Already many flocks being reported, mainly from the Copenhagen area. Apparently they go for tree seeds and buds rather than berries at this time of year, despite their availability in abundance this year. This one was in a flock of about 15 birds. |

A tiny fraction of a flock with 150 birds that will probably stay here a few more days, until the last roadside berries have been swallowed. |

Sydstranden. Yet another generous visitor showing well. This one in a flock of 40. They have been everywhere on Amager lately, but the berries have soon been consumed all of them, and with the mild climate of now, they probably soon say goodbye. |

2024-04-21 Vinkelhuse (Tårnby), Denmark
Adult. As close to a balcony species as you can get it. A 40 flock. The two ever-green trees below have these red berries that are probably not very attractive since they are still here at the end of the winter season, and with blackbirds visiting constantly. The waxwings also didn't eat up today, but perhaps the same flock came back the next day, probably forced to without much food elsewhere. |

Adult. Same size flock as the other day, why it likely is the same. And they came in to get the last berries from the trees below the apartment. I think they are done now! |
