Subspecies: melophilus Likely a bird resting during migration. Practically haven't seen a Robin on Amager the whole summer. Here the bird from the front and behind - complete transformation. |

Subspecies: melophilus (by location) Adult. Not sure how this subspecies differs from the one present in the rest of western Europe, rubecula (TODO). Notice that the normally weak wing bar seems to be even weaker on this bird which I think is unusual. Here it is barely visible. But I also recognize that this could be an effect of the short distance to the bird which might blur out delicate details that are easier to perceive from a distance. Because on almost all birds I normally see the wing bar is evident. It showed an unusually tame behavior allowing me to take these photos. The bird was also calling with a very unusual call, a monotonously repeated sharp loud drawn out note, as if something was disturbing it (would assume other than me), but didn't see anything. Forgot the data transfer cable to the recorder back home in Mexico, however, why the recording will have to be added later(TODO). Very common this autumn/winter. Must have been a good breeding year on the Scandinavian Peninsula. |

An exclusive visitor on the actual balcony. Normally it sneaks around in the bushes below, but noticing the successful movements of the other birds to and from the feeder, it finally decided to be bold. Vinkelhuse |

Another bird without the faint wing bar. Is this really normal in the winter season? The wing seems intact with fresh coverts why I would have expected the bar to be present. Can't imagine it is a trait appearing when the feathers get worn. |

Fine and miniscule red-breasted substitute while looking in vain for a newly arrived Red Squirrel at the edge of Ballonparken. Exciting in times when stone-hearted politicians are scheming to close down nature. |

Adult. This fine bird has also decided to accept the potential dangers of so close proximity to humans me. Is still more nervous than the chaffinch, though, only doing swiftly dives to the balcony floor grabbing a single seed to be consumed elsewhere down in the bushes. Vinkelhuse |

Approaching again now that it gets colder. Looks like it's more confident this time, or this individual, not fleeing nervously by the slightest movement. Vinkelhuse |

And so it took most of the winter before it finally decided not to depend on the tits and sparrows to provide floor-picking food. All day it was eagerly active, sometimes seed-picking while hovering and sometimes succeeding at grabbing the coconut and pick a seed while hanging. None of the two approaches looked comfortable and it certainly has to practice more, to be as natural about it as the smaller whimsy ones. Today, the day after, there has been no sign of the bird at all, for whatever reason, but hopefully it hasn't been discouraged by the difficult task. But for all eventualities sake, I now and then throw a few seeds on the floor for it not to go hungry to bed, if it should decide to show up after all. Vinkelhuse |
