Adult male. A late bird at almost the same spot as the young bird a month earlier. When seen well the adult male is unmistakable. At a distance the lower rump could appear very bright, giving associations toward a young Hobby. Foraging by catching insects/dragonflies in the air - not hovering as it is also known to do. Looks like only a few primaries have been molted - would have expected more by this time of year. |

Same as 1366. Foraged low today. Perhaps because of the strong western wind. Here, it is half way through a mouse. |

2cy male with a complete juvenile wing and tail. However, the central pair of rectrices are very worn or damaged. It was seen at the bend on Sydmøllevej until the afternoon where it disappeared unnoticed. Was foraging on dragonflies. Rare |

Juvenile. As seen here unmistakable in Denmark with the dark eye patch and modest mustache emphasized in head with both a pale cheek and crown. A young Eurasian Hobby would be much darker in the head with the dark extending down the nape, and the belly streaking would be equally heavier. An unexpected Amur Falcon is very similar in juvenile plumage but normally shows a darker crown combining with the dark eye patch, and also generally shows a whiter ground color to the belly. As the photos show this character is changeable depending on light and angle. Photo 1 shows the correct difference in back color between Red-footed Falcon and Eurasian Kestrel. A good influx of young birds in Denmark these days with warm eastern winds. |

1 cy. Was with 3142. Probably the same birds that have been here for some weeks now. This bird is much more buff on the head than the other bird, 3142. Not sure if it is already an indication of a female, or just a warm colored individual. Granatvej. |
