♂. Puente Jarácuaro. Adult male. Unique among the yellowthroats with the dark colors and the black hood. Especially the dark wings seem characteristic as well as the black legs. I counted 16 birds, seen and heard, in a small area, thus, knowing how extensive the reed bed is, I expect the population to be healthy here. Notice that at first glance it is not impossible to confuse this bird with a male Lesser Goldfinch, when only seen from the front. That species is also present in good numbers in the area, though probably not common in between the reeds as such. |
