Young bird with not black tail. Likely male with the well-marked streaks. About subspecies I'm confused, since both West Mexican and Streak-backed groups (ebird) are present in this part of Mexico. Howell seems to be inconsistent with the definitions and ranges used in ebird, and especially the differences regarding the back streaking makes it less obvious which birds belong to which group. I don't think I've ever seen a really dark-backed bird in this part of Mexico, birds where the streaking seems to switch over and becoming orange-yellow on a black background (Streak-backed trait), why I will have to assume, that this bird belong to the West Mexican group. |
