Adult. A candidate for an eastern bird, subspecies soemmerringii? Probably not, but is certainly standing out among the jackdaws we see here on Amager. Søren Haaning Nielsen has made a compilation of mostly eastern photos in an attempt to reach a conclusion about how to identify a soemmerringii in Western Europe. https://www.netfugl.dk/artikler/2508/halsbaandsallike-mulig-eller-umulig Well-marked whitish neck-patch, blackish breast and back with no contrast to the wing, paler side of head and neck than monedula birds, no contrast between the throat and the dark breast. All of this, often being referred to as the clues to the id of an eastern bird. But the material is not conclusive since many birds photographed in the western part of the range of soemmerringii, show characters very similar to monedula birds. More details in the article, but only in Danish. Compared to the named characters this bird is probably too pale and mottled on the breast and back to qualify as an alleged soemmerringii. |
