Adult. A steady wind from southwest often seems to be a good time to look for this gull along the dike, where they hang easily in the wind while foraging on the kelp floating in the surface, picking insects. This one, however, was not particularly cooperative only making short stops swinging down to the surface for a brief moment before continuing. Three times did I have to try, speeding ahead of the bird the entire distance between the middle and the northern towers, about a kilometer, before I managed to get useful photos. And with every stop it got worse, the body shaking after the fast chase and the wind still coming in, and the bird being a light weight, dancing through the air in a non-linear movement. But fun it was! P10 still growing making the wing look even more rounded than it usually does. |
