This dark-suited sandpiper superficially looks like a compressed Common Redshank. Association especially by the bare part coloration. Compared to other calidris species the dark expression is noticeable, and especially combined with choice of habitat. Rocky coastline, or likewise substitute habitat, as here, is normally only used by this species, and the Ruddy Turnstone which is also present with this small flock of 6. The bird with the strong golden-buff fringes to the wing coverts, I would like for a juvenile, but apparently differences between juvenile and basic plumage are subtle, and varied, why it is probably necessary to id them to species level only. |
