Not sure, but I met two birders who said someone had seen purple sandpipers along the coast, and just wondering if some of these redshanks could have been mistaken for the sandpipers if only seen sticking the head above the edge of the rock. It was high tide and not favorable for sandpipers anywhere along the beach except on the seagrass banks. Of course they could be foraging there, but I like the mistake-theory better simply because it is exactly how you are expecting to see this species, on beach and water rocks. |
