First calendar year. A few 2.gen scapulars are showing on this rather messy looking bird - at least as it stands in photo 1. The broad black tail band, not narrowing laterally, contrasting well with the base of the tail and the coverts. And the greater coverts almost all with dark centers support this species. It also shows a rather dark inner hand only with pale inner webs and a rather pale underwing. Plus the almost clean white underside. To notice: Looking at the flanks in photo 4 and 5 it certainly looks like they're different. But I've scrutinized all my photos and there is not doubt that the two are of the same bird, although from different sequences, why angle, blurriness and feather movements must account for the difference. |
