Juvenile. Since my last observation of the bird, on 2021-06-08, I had been contacted by DOF to confirm that a juvenile was actually present in Kongelunden this year. Nice as I am, I sent a photo and confirmed where the nest was. When seeing the bird today, with that lump on the back, my instant thought was, that over-eagerly researchers had attacked the nest to put a transmitter on the bird: In the Questionable Name of Science. It looked strange, though, I admit. No squarish edges and no antenna sticking out, but could disorganized feathers really look like this? I hoped so but thought not. Complaining in advance the rest of the day, I decided to revisit the nest, hoping the bird would show itself again, which certainly had not been the case everyday until now. |
