2cy female. Clearly two generations of remiges and the outer two primaries are old juvenile. The eye, which is normally dark on the juvenile female, is starting to become yellow as seen in photo 5. Normally 5 'fingers' are visible in the hand, but here it looks like 4 four are present, probably lacking one due to molt. The compact and heavy body with the broad hand is your first indication that this is not one of the lighter circus harriers, Montagu's or Pallid, which are coming through this part of Denmark too during migration. In smaller numbers though, even though the last few weeks have seen a large number than usual of Pallid Harriers. |
