An educated guess is that it is a male, since it has limited barring at the rear end; females are supposed to be more heavily barred. My second seen bird on the ranch and on this day! ( see also 3057). This one showed better, even though, it continued to stay hidden. Several were calling around us, and there was no effect to see on the bird, when I tried to playback it to get closer. It's the only tinamou in the area, but I guess you could mistake it for a White-tipped Dove if not seen well. The dove is very common in the area, and also moves slowy around on the forest floor creating that leaf-scrapping sound. I saw this one on the ridge just outside the ranch property, leaving through the blue gate at the back end behind the rental houses (cabins) |
