Finally seen! Only tinamou in the area, and characteristic with the barred rear part. You hear it every day in the breeding season (not so much in the winter time), but it is difficult to spot. You have to walk up the slopes, but still then is it often impossible because the vegetation is too dense. Sometimes you can stand a few meters from the bird without getting a glimpse of it. But at this time of the year the chances are much better, because the vegetation is so dry that there is practically no understory for the birds to hide in. Unfortunately I had company by Bonnies two big dogs (invited them myself), and that resulted in this tinamou to take off too quickly, only allowing me to get photograph the rear part of the bird. Enough for an id, but it would have been nice to get the whole bird in the frame. Saw it well, though, before the Great Dane, started to move around. |
