Sex, Age, Comment | 2cy bird. Only saw this bird from below as shown in the photos. First impression was of a Gray Hawk indeed, but while seeing mainly the dark face in the photos, I got a feeling that it could have been a Broad-winged. However, an external personal comment also inclined toward Gray, plus the fact that Broad-winged never or rarely shows well-marked barring all the way to the outer remiges (Clark and Schmitt), which is very pronounced on this bird, make me decide to call it a Gray. To judge the proportions of the bird as a mean of identification from photos is always often very risky, why the sensation of a slimmer winged bird than what a Broad-winged would have shown should not be weighed to high, in my opinion. | ||||||||||||
