Sex, Age, Comment | Spectacular show! Some estimated 100000 birds during less than half an hour heading for their night roost somewhere toward southwest! Starting with scattered smaller flocks with 1-200 birds the action soon escalated with birds passing by in their thousands - several times long waving bands of birds extended for more than a kilometer toward both sides of the lake. The species is known for these large congregations during winter, but every time I experience it, it still excites me. To stand 20 meters below a moving carpet of thousands of birds while being hit by the sound wave created by their rapid wing movements, is just incredible. | ||||||||||||
