There once was an artist, who listened to the complaints made by tourists visiting Copenhagen, that, when seeing how small the Little Mermaid was in reality, expressed their deep disappointment: "Such a long trip, just for this..?!"

Why not endulge, and give them what they want, he thought. The profane International Middle Class that rage the world blindly in eternal craving for that next fix of brain-dead entertainment. He gave them a tall and strong woman with a firm look in her eyes, pleasing and wellshaped too, and with a pair of persuasive arguments, cupsized H+, to complete this fantasy about what an ocean-living woman should look like.

Peter Bech made his decision in 2004, and finishing in 2006 the statue was at first placed at Langelinie, logically, where all the tourist would see her firsthand getting off their boats.

But of course this would soon be too much for the hypocritical part of society that has no problems with vulgarity as long as it wears a hat and and long-sleeved shirt. It had to be moved, and it was deported to the obscure Dragør Fort at the southern end of Amager. This, mainly because the sculpteur lived here, and he offered the mermaid, as a gift, to the community of Dragør. And they accepted it, and she has now been standing there for many years.

But now she has to be removed. The officials of the department of buildings and castles have decided that she no longer fits into the environment, dishonoring the surrounding installations. A pair of nude breasts is profane, but to allow various dubious food-facilities to run the business in the same premis, raises no eyebrows. And this even if the same food-facilities became scenery for the murder of one of the owners, as there was a dispute between them, and this guy was smashed in the head with a hammer, by a local rocker, and he died. Naturally. Criminal activities is not a problem, apparently. But of course: The overall purpose of this fortress is to defend oneself from the nasty eastern intruders, and a dead eastern intruder is of course always a better intruder than a live one, so the logic stays intact: "No to distracting life-giving God-made breasts. Welcome to death and agressive behavior!"

What will come out of it, has still not been decided. But the municipality of Tårnby is at the moment discussing whether they should accept her as a gift. But narrow-mindedness and hypocrisy are common deceases in our society, why the spine-reactions have been, mainly from the female members of the city council, that the statue is badly made and vulgar art at its worst, and it would be a disgrace to the community to have her on display.

This is not my favorite type of breasts, why I can assure that I'm not biased by my own preferences, when I defend this work. The torpedo-shape of the breasts doesn't do it for me, but I know, that you will actually find real women out there having this type of breasts. And of course even more so nowadays where more women than you would like to know buy fake ones, and often they will look like this. If the sculpteur's niece, who stood model, really looks this way, or if he used his own fantacies, is irrelevant to me, as long as the result is within what you would call natural. And about the rest of the figure: I would actually argue opposite of most critics, and say that is is wonderful to actually see a statue that looks like a real human being. The curves and shape of this female figure look very natural to me. Of course the expression in the face looks a bit stiff, but we are talking about a figure, 4 meters tall, and it is not supposed to be studied up front, but from a distance. Imagine, you come backstage to greet your favorite actress, and there she stands, stagelike with the makeup still on, and you get shocked by her exagerated and caricatured face, truly disgusting, and you dismiss her on that account. Not fair, of course.

This statue might have been created with a provocative intention, but it doesn't dishonor the female gender in any way. Standing tall, proud and feminine she embodies a woman sure of herself and ready to stand up for herself. But also a woman open to the world going forward with all that God intended, when He/She/Them/It/What created the two genders.

November 2025 is election time. A new City Council. So beware that you have your arguments well in order, not being colored by the impact of your own limited reflexion, if you get my meaning...

A preserved or recreated bog surrounded by a mixed urban and agricultural environment. The False Heath Fritillary (Melitaea diamina) [Mørk Pletvinge] has been introduced here and flies strictly in the clearing seen in photos 4 and 5. And only here in all of Denmark. Lesser Marbled Fritillary (Brenthis ino) [Engperlemorssommerfugl] is also introduced here, having an otherwise very restricted distribution in Denmark - only in C Sjælland and on Fyn.

Access is from Kollerød east of highway 16, following dirt road Vejs Ende...to the end.

An October 20th eastern storm that raised the Baltic waters to such levels that her anker couldn't hold her, and she moved east only to be stranded near the beach. The cormorants indifferent of course, but the photographer content with a nicer perspective. It's still there a month later, the owner waiting for the right conditions to be able to pull her loose and out to her former position 400 meters off shore. Apparently it is difficult to find a permanent berth for her, why she is stuck in international waters. Because of the narrow strait between Denmark and Sweden the usual territorial ocean border of the two countries have been minimized dramatically allowing the heavy traffic commuting to and from the Baltic region without having to pass through eventually hostile waters...good for you Russia - today.

The fishermen often work like this wading through the shallow water of the lagoon, even though there are crocodiles. The American Crocodile can reach a length of about 5-6 meters, and even though individuals that big are rare they do exist, I expect? I have to ask what goes on in their heads. Hopefully before a croc finds out the fleshy way...

Termite nest. Common in general, but especially here in the mangrove. At other places some of the nest are taken over by parakeets, but normally they just are.

Mangrove scenario. The boardwalk through the mangrove leading to the observation spot. At this place the white mangrove is more common than the red which has the classic mangrove roots. The white looks more like normal trees with one solid trunk, and that is because it normally lives at a higher elevation than the other types of mangrove, and therefore do not need to protect itself from salt water and tidal flooding.

The garden of the hacienda which now belongs to the University of Colima and works as faculty. Disciplines related to the environment. The garden is open to the public and is run based on an organic growth philosophy. One of the most idyllic places in Colima and absolutely worth a visit.

The river where I live. Not the most beautiful stretch in that direction, but the other way you find 200 meters with more vegetation, and it is pretty nice. The water flows all the year, providing a good base for the plenty birdlife and the squirrels. For example, you easily see the Snowy Egret trying its luck in the middle of the river.

It didn't stay for long. Less than a day. Nevado de Colima, lying behind out of sight, with its higher altitude has been much more resitent toward the elements when first the snow was there.
I took the picture from where I live en the center of Colima. The distance is about 30 kilometers.

The volcanoes (Nevado de Colima is lying to the left outside the picture) raises to an altitude of almost 4 km and are actually situated in Jalisco, though they often are associated with Colima. Probably because of the name. Here on the Colima side of the volcanoes you can ascend to about 1500 meters. The field in front of the picture is an Avocado field - the new trend in Colima.

After periods with rain the water is powerful and fast running. And the rain water brings with it a lot of sediments and therefore the water loses its natural blue color.
