Identification:
Rather small.
Male has dark ribbons above and is blue with a well-defined black inner margin running on both wings. The female is chocolate brown above. Both sexes without additional patterns or colors above.

Below both sexes show small black spots with white circles running in bands, and that are of equal size on both fore- and hindwing. On the forewing the spots run in a band that tend to bend forward toward the center of the bird. On the hindwing the two spots close to the costa appear separate, more toward the center, from the rest of the spots.

minimus (Dværgblåfugl) is somewhat similar, but generally smaller. Above the male has pale ribbons and less blue and less well-marked rim-band. The female is similarly paler, but on the underside the ground color is darker. The spots on the underside run in bands that are more like dots with white circles and on the forewing the band does not bend forward toward the center of the animal. Also, the all the dots on the hindwing appear more coherent.

alexis (Kløverblåfugl) overall shows the same coloration both above and below, but is larger and has darker and broader wing edges above. Below the spots on the forewing are much bigger than the ones on the hindwing.

Mazarine Blue 924    (4 photos)
2022-07-12    Horna Grushåla (Åhus), Sweden

Imago ♂
Worn individual.

Not expected, and only discovered when going through photos.

It didn't look small, and the dark ribbons on the upperside are well-defined, and the white-bordered spots on the underside of the front wing are showing an arch rather than a straight line parallel to the outer wing edge. All of this in comparison to Little Blue (Cupido minimus) and in favor of Mazarine.

My first.

On Rundbælg (Anthyllis vulneraria) [Common Kidneyvetch ~ Vulneraria ~ Getväppling].
