Life stages:
The mating only lasts a few minutes and takes place in the vegetation near the shore. The female drops the eggs in tandem into plant material over low water. The eggs overwinter and hatch the following spring. The larvae live in-between water plants and develop during 2-3 months (same season). The imago-transformation takes place on plants in or near the water, or in low grass near the shore.
Distribution:
Central and eastern Europe from E France, Belgium, Netherlands, N Italy, N Germany to Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria. Also east through the Asian continent to Korea and Japan.

Status
In Europe, outside the breeding area in C and E, the species is a true rarity, and is not to be expected in those parts. Except that it probably is showing a tendency to expand toward the north and the west. Much more common in the eastern part of the distribution range. In the Nordic countries there have been 1 observation in Denmark, in 1998 on Langeland. And in Sweden, near Jönköping, in the years 2011-2012 a small population (~50) surprisingly was found, with origin unknown. They were all gone in 2013 where the locality was drained for agricultural purpose. In 2025 there was one record on the Polish coast not that far from Bornholm.
