Mating takes place near the shore on the ground or in vegetation. It lasts a few minutes. The lone female flying forth and back then drops the eggs into the water where many water plants. The eggs hatch after a few weeks and the larvae develop during 2-3 years. The imago-transformation takes place near the water.
Distribution:
Continental Europe north of the Alps. Also C France. Absent the British Isles. Also present Russia patchily through the temperate zone of the continent to C Asia. In Denmark widespread in Jylland, NE Sjælland and Bornholm. Localized Fyn, Lolland and Falster.
