Patchily Baltic region including NW Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Estonia. Also Russia across the continent to the far east and Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia. In Denmark restricted to the wetland-complex Vejlerne in NE Jylland. But also registered at nearby Bulbjerg, Tømmerby Fjord and Feggeklit.
VU in Denmark. LC Europe and globally. The species is very localized in Denmark and probably also fluctuating in numbers, why it is not found every year. But apparently it continues to be here, and with observations outside Vejlerne it is also likely that it is actually expanding its breeding range. Also expanding in Sweden.
