Identification:
Unmistakable in Denmark and the Nordic region.
Sydeuropæisk Svalehale (Iphiclides podalirius) [Scarce Swallowtail ~ Podalirio ~ Segelfjäril] is much rarer in the Nordic region but differs from Svalehale by being paler and by a more simple black-and-yellow streaked 'vertical' pattern on the forewing and longer tails and the red spots along the inner margin not being limited by black on the proximal side.

Distribution:
Widespread palaearctic region and N America.
Habitat:
A variety of useful habitats: Flowery bogs and meadows. Along creeks and other waterbodies, dry flowery fields or even rocky coastal terrain. In Denmark often seen in gardens away from normal habitats. Of course indicating that it is a strong flier that moves about quite a bit.
Behavior:
Hill-topping: The species has a tendency to seek out exposed hill tops where males and females meet to mate.

. Earlier common in Denmark but with landscape regulations during the 20th century the [wet] habitats were disappearing and so did the species from the 50'ies and the next 30 years.
Recent years have seen more observations and eggs and larvae have been found why it is likely that the species is experiencing a revival, also favored by the climate changes. Otherwise it is a rare but reliable visitor from neighboring countries. Common in Sweden and Finland with a restricted distribution in Norway.
Comment:
2025-06-12: I have my first record in Denmark, at Pinseskoven, Amager. A quick flyby.

1) The second generation in Scandinavia refers to the animals flying on the Swedish west coast where the rocky littoral climate provides favorable conditions for fast-developing animals.

2) Obs: The subspecies list is taken from wikipedia, but the background for it is not clear to me, and I doubt there is consensus about it in the lepidopteran community. But included to give an idea about the complexity of the species.

We saw 4 different animals at this spot. All just pacing by, except this one that paused a few seconds behind the car allowing for a few hip shots...
