Common Bluetail (Ischnura elegans) Stor Farvevandnymfe (dk) Agrion Elegante (es) Större Kustflickslända (se) 2025-05-21 Travbaneparken, Denmark Exuvia. Different animals. Store regnvandsbassin. The pointed shape of the lamellae is good for this species, and not shown by any of the bluets that breed here too. Small Bluetail (I. pumilio) has them even more pointed at the end. The extensive net of fine veins in the lamella is characteristic of this species. There were several exuvias during these days corresponding well with the presence of adults at the same time. In photo 9, the two short spikes with a notch between them inside the yellow circle reflect the genital plate of the male below on S9. In photo 10 the same goes for the female showing two parallel structures covering S9 and half of S10. Notice that the animals all have their heads downward in photo 13, but upward in photos 12. Migrant Hawker (Aeshna mixta) Efterårs-mosaikguldsmed (dk) Esna Mixta (es) Höstmosaikslända (se) 2022-08-06 Kalvebod Fælled, Denmark Exuvia. I'm guessing the species because I had two tenerals drying right next to this exuvia. Exuvia |

Green Hawker (Aeshna viridis) Grøn Mosaikguldsmed (dk) Grön Mosaikslända (se) 2022-06-28 Krebseklo-vandhullet/kirkegård (Hørsholm), Denmark Imago. A good number of empty exuvias were seen but only two animals emerging. This one shows a hint of blue on the S3 indicating a male. I watched the two animals during 4 and a half hour practically without seeing any movement. Don't know if normally takes this long before they start flying? Exuvia |

Green Hawker (Aeshna viridis) Grøn Mosaikguldsmed (dk) Grön Mosaikslända (se) 2022-06-28 Krebseklo-vandhullet/kirkegård (Hørsholm), Denmark Imago. Female. One of two emerging while I was there. To my knowledge a bluish tone to S3 normally would indicate a male why this must be an unusual individual. Exuvia |

Blue Emperor (Anax imperator) Stor Kejserguldsmed (dk) Emperador Azul (es) Blå Kejsartrollslända (se) 2024-05-24 Travbaneparken, Denmark Exuvia. Store regnvandsbassin. Saw 10 similar exuvias in the two basins, but no imagines around, why they must go far to seek better foraging grounds. The same was the case on Amager Fælled a few days later. Here they normally fly along the DLK, but maybe the steady eastern wind has made it less favorable to forage in these parts. Or it might also be that I haven't been aware of the exuvias in earlier years and the vanishing-behavior is as it has always been. Length: 50 mm. Exuvia |

Blue Emperor (Anax imperator) Stor Kejserguldsmed (dk) Emperador Azul (es) Blå Kejsartrollslända (se) 2025-06-02 Travbaneparken, Denmark Exuvia. Female. Lille regnvandsbassin. Sitting 50 cm above the water on sedge. Flat mask; Large eyes reaching toward the center of the head and with a convex terminal edge parallel to the rear edge of the head; Size. Female because of the genital-plate structure belov on S9 (photo 7). Several exuviae are present in these days, but no sign of the adults; the same as last year. Photo 11 shows the female above and another animal to show size variation. Exuvia |

Hairy Hawker (Brachytron pratense) Håret Mosaikguldsmed (dk) Esna Primaveral (es) Tidig Mosaikslända (se) 2025-05-26 Store Hareskov (nordsjælland), Denmark Exuvia. Female. Jagtvejssøen-vest. Found 60 cm above the water in a patch of cattails. Flat mask; Small widely separated eyes; Size. I used the key by Ole Fogh Nielsen (98) to identify this exuvia. Unfortunately it lead me to choose between two unlikely candidates, A. juncea and A. subarctica. When this happens, you have to use common sense and look around you to see, which species are actually present here and now. And only two hawker species were realistic: the present species and Green-eyed Hawker (I. isoceles). And then I doubled back two where both of them were still in play, and had to realize that my judgment of the eye shape must have been (and probably still is) wrong. I still see the eyes as having a continuation downward toward the center, and not just as simply small isolated round eyes. But this must be the case, and I have to learn to pay attention to this level of detail. Fine. The rest of the exuvia matches fine with this species, and comparing with photos from a Polish site, the dark color is also in support of pratense. It is possible to sex it because of the subgenital plate found underneath S9 showing two short fork-like spikes. Exuvia |

They were emerging vastly this day along a short 100 meters stretch right in front of the boarding school Herlufsholm where the pupils are bullied and the teachers just laugh about it. Almost. Perhaps it was an 80 meters stretch... Exuvia |

Meta data says the photos are from May 30, but I've made notes that says I was there on May 28. Bulky mask; Regularly toothed labial palps; Hairy seem between top and back of head; Parallel side to back head; Cerci more than half length of paraprocts; Back spine on S8 but not on S9; Side spine of S9 not reaching appendages; Size and shape. Four-spotted Chaser (Libellula quadrimaculata) Fire-plettet Libel (dk) Centinela de Cuatro Manchas (es) Fyrfläckad Trollslända (se) 2025-06-11 Toggerup Tørvemose (Grib skov), Denmark Exuvia. Bulky mask; Regularly toothed labial palps; Cerci more than half length of paraprocts; No Back spine on S9; Side spine of S9 not reaching appendages; Size and shape. This is a very vaguely marked exuvia, I think. With only one well-marked back-spine (S6) and practically no side-spines. I had hoped it to be one of the whitefaces, but apparently they can all be ruled out by no showing any dark markings on the underside of the abdomen. Exuvia |

Bulky mask; Regular teeth on labial palps; Low contrast between top and back of head; None-hairy general look; Small half-dome-shaped eyes seen from the front; Underside of abdomen without dark colors; Side spine on S9 does not reach past cerci; Cerci shorter than half of paraprocts; Lenght of S8 side spine is not more than 1/6 of lenght of S8; Size and shape. (not all characters are equally visible in these photos, but the complete exclusion-chain is listed for educational purposes). The exuvia belongs to this male. Exuvia |

Common Darter (Sympetrum striolatum) Stor Hedelibel (dk) Alguacil Estriada (es) Större Ängstrollslända (se) 2025-07-01 Travbaneparken, Denmark Exuvia. Lille regnvandsbassin. Bulky mask;Regularly toothed labial palps; Half-domed eye-shape; S9-side-thorn longer than cerci; Bristle-crests on underside of S7-8 (difficult to see); S8-side-thorns longer than a third of the length of S8; Size and shape. Striolatum and sanguineum are the only sympetrums flying here now. A Sanguineum would show the S8-side-thorn shorter than a third of S8. Only one exuvia found, but several imagines. Exuvia |
