Same as 987. The weaker underwing markings and the brownish wash to the top of the head indicate a younger bird. |

Blue-footed Booby (Sula nebouxii nebouxii) Blåfodet Sule ~ Bobo Patas Azules ~ Blåfotad Sula 2013-02-02 San Blas (nay), Mexico
Virgin Rock. Adult male. The pupil appears large but it is because it is early morning - on the way to Isla Isabel. Cute expression when you see it head on. Photo 3, Here it looks more like a penguin than a booby. |

Blue-footed Booby (Sula nebouxii nebouxii) Blåfodet Sule ~ Bobo Patas Azules ~ Blåfotad Sula 2019-01-29 Boca de Tomates (jal), Mexico
Apparently adult female with the dark central part of the iris. And apparently completely healthy this bird came even closer when the fishermen approached, hoping for an afternoon snack. They weren't very communicative, why I don't know more about it's appearance on the beach, other than that it arrived every morning when they would come back from the bay with their catch. |

Blue-footed Booby (Sula nebouxii nebouxii) Blåfodet Sule ~ Bobo Patas Azules ~ Blåfotad Sula 2019-01-29 Boca de Tomates (jal), Mexico
Adult injured bird. Male with the clean yellow iris. Flew up only a few meters when I approached, obviously not able to fly. It was gone when I came back, though. But a nearby fisherman now working with his gear a few meters from where I left the bird, might have a saying in this... |

Blue-footed Booby (Sula nebouxii nebouxii) Blåfodet Sule ~ Bobo Patas Azules ~ Blåfotad Sula 2019-04-03 Islas Mariétas (nay), Mexico
Adult with two young (pullus). The species normally performs asynchronous hatching meaning that the first chick will have an advantage over its younger siblings, if any. A strategy to make sure at least some offspring will succeed to fledge in years with scarce food supplies. 1 to 3 eggs is the normal. How big a time span there normally is between the chicks are being hatched, I'm not sure of, but apparently not much since the two chicks here look almost the same size. |
