Great Black Hawk (Buteogallus urubitinga) ebird/Clements (2021)
	1186 (1 photos) Great Black Hawk (Buteogallus urubitinga ridgwayi) Stor Sortvåge ~ Aguililla Negra Mayor 2013-11-25 Rancho San Salvador, Río Lagartos, Yucatán (Yuc), Mexico 2cy bird.The general shape with broad wings indicates a Buteogallus raptor. The white upper tail coverts excludes the Common Black-Hawk, and the uneven black bands on the white tail tell that it is a bird in its second year. A plumage only poorly described in the field guides, and equally difficult to find photos online. Yucatán 2013. Yucatan 2013
	2859 (3 sounds) Great Black Hawk (Buteogallus urubitinga ridgwayi) Stor Sortvåge ~ Aguililla Negra Mayor 2018-12-06 Crooked Tree, Belize District, Belize Juvenile. Calling and posing perfectly (camera broke down a few hours before). The long drawnout call. At one point it sounded like it came from another direction, as if another bird was responding.
	2967 (6 photos) Great Black Hawk (Buteogallus urubitinga ridgwayi) Stor Sortvåge ~ Aguililla Negra Mayor 2019-03-28 Yelapa, Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco (Jal), Mexico Adult. Pictures 5 and 6 were taken separately from the others, when this bird came back from the direction where the other one had gone. It looks like the tail could be similar on the two birds, why I tentatively regard them as one. Best identification mark for this bird is the white upper tail coverts, plus a second white tail band, best seen from above. Because, what is normally mentioned as field marks for this species doesn't seem to be very clear on this bird: Parallel-sided wings - not really, long legs well past the white tail band - depends on the angle and don't really look that long, black and white streaked thighs - not really visible here, lack of whitish patch on outer primaries below - yes! Also try to compare this bird with 2955 which is a 100% sure Common Black Hawk, and tell me if you couldn't be confused by the silhouette and leg length the two between. Be aware, don't string it!
